Fall Trends in the Lobby of MBFW

Working mostly in the lobby of Fashion Week, I saw everyone and everything that came through the front door. This was the ultimate people watching job. I saw the most outrageous outfits and some of the most chic styling. Here are a few things I observed about what's hot for fall in NYC. This is just my take, if you don't like it, don't read.

Chiffon Maxi Skirts!

Wear these with chunky knits, leather jackets, tanks, or over-sized button-downs. Wear the one-layer with a mini skirt or leggings underneath or get a double layer and pair it with tights for the fall. This is something I haven't see here in the South and now I'm in love. I got mine at American Apparel!

Military Dressing

ADAM Spring 2012

This trend has been out for a while, but it's here to stay (at least for the next 2 seasons). I love the casual feel and ease of this look. The boots go with anything and the jackets are so chic. Victoria Beckham (one of my icons) does it perfectly with the army green pants, aviators and classic blazer. ADAM showed military-style jackets in his Spring 2012 collection. This is definitely an investment for your fall and upcoming spring wardrobe.

High/Low Skirts
(Mullet Skirts)

Amy (left) is rocking the high/low trend.
Very chic at Fashion Week!

It's a skirt that's party in the front and grandma in the back. When I asked Jack how he felt about these skirts, he said "you better pray the wind blows from the back, not the front." But, seriously, all jokes aside, I like this new trend. It's very cute and feminine. I would go to places like H&M or Forever21 to find these skirts because it looks to be a trend that won't be here for the long haul. I would wear it with textured tights and short boots for the fall. This skirt in a floral print has a very romantic and pretty feel.

Menswear-Inspired

This trend works, as long as you keep some feminine elements in the outfit (i.e. heels, booties, jewelry, sparkle or studs). I would skip the tie though, it reminds me of some very bad fashion decisions I made in middle/high school regarding my mediocre fascination for Avril Lavigne. Since menswear changes at a glacial pace in comparison to womenswear, I would invest in some great high-waisted pleated pants, cute flat lace-up shoes, crisp button-downs and a great blazer.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Intro

I just got back from NYC a couple days ago. I had absolutely no time to blog while I was working 12 hours a day for 8 days! It was by far, one of the most amazing and rewarding experiences of my life. For the first 2 days, I worked in the Command and Production Office. The Command Office is the information hub for the whole event. All info came through that office. I helped run things to venues, check in and out radios, prepare radio boxes for each show and anything else they needed. For the rest of the week, I worked in sponsorship seating with my fellow IMG Fashion interns, Lauren and Amy. We seated guests of sponsors in their reserved seats for every show. After Amy had to leave, I took over her job which was taking care of the Mercedes-Benz front row guests. I had to go into the 2 largest venues (The Stage and The Theater) 30 min before each show and confirm the location of the 2 MB guest seats. As soon as the house opened for the shows, I would wait in the MB Star Lounge for my guests to get ready to go into the show. Because of the location of the seats, I had to walk on the runways and weave in and out of the mass of guests, celebs, photographers, PR workers, and interviews that were going on.

MBFW was located at Lincoln Center. The whole venue was a massive set up of multiple tents. There are 4 venues within the tents: The Box (for presentations), The Studio, The Stage and The Theater. The larger designers showed in The Stage and Theater. The box is the most versatile because the designer can put anything they want in the space and have models stand for an hour in the set up (i.e. a man-made jungle). Since I had to be in the venues for seating, I was able to stay inside and watch most of the shows. I learned a wealth of knowledge about events, fashion, security, celebs and I saw the most beautiful runway shows and elaborate presentations.

I want to continue my blog about my life, fashion and fun times.

September 8 - 15 is Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in NYC! It is the LARGEST fashion event in the world! I will be there!!!!! I am working for IMG who produces the whole event and will for sure have tons to blog about. MBFW from a southern girl's perspective. Last week in NYC. Yankees Game!

The last week we were in New York, we decided to go to a Yankees game. I would be sad if I left and never got to see "Mr. NYC", Derek Jeter, play ball and it was quite the experience. It was the largest stadium I've ever been in! There were 2 rain delays, but I was content waiting it out with my fried food and beer. I really came to the game just to eat. Also, since we sat in the nose-bleed section (2nd to last row from the top) there was an overhang and we only got wet when the wind blew the rain into us. We had garlic fries, fried chicken, hot dogs, cotton candy, ice cream cones, and lots of beer and soda. As Elaine put it "OMG I love America". And so do I.

The gang's all here

I was absolutely fascinated with how quickly they rolled out the tarp

Here's an over exaggeration of the freak out during the rain delay. Amy was actually trying to take a picture.....hence the famous words "Oh, it's on record".

Baseball = America = Fatty Foods = Happy Sydney

Yes, Jack, I'm going to put you on my blog.

I am always excited on the rare occasion that I get to see my high school pal, Jack. He's been living in NY since high school and he just recently graduated from Parson's The New School for Design. We always have so much fun and of course take a lot of ridiculous pictures. Jack is probably the most unique, talented, stylish, kind and ambitious person I will ever know.

Black and white polka dots and stripes. how chic of us.

We had access to the rooftop on Jacks apt building. amaze.

Jack has an affinity for Australians.

A throw back to our high school days.

He was my escort for Homecoming.

I didn't win queen that year, but we won best dressed. for sure.
