Shacking it up!

Last night my boyfriend Chris and his friends Jay and Mac arrived in New York City! Staying between Emily's (Chris' sister) dorm in Brooklyn and our dorm in the city, they are our shackers for the week. *Side note: My dorm here is so ridiculous; some not-very-nice security guard put a warning on my account because I wasn't there to sign Chris out this afternoon.....I have a job!

Anyways :), the boys + Amber and Emily met me in Madison Square Park for a Shake Shack lunch break! Shake Shack is quite possibly the best place to have burgers and milkshakes.....ever....in the world, but the line is ALWAYS extremely long. Nonetheless, we braved the not-actually-so-hot heat and waited for 30 minutes to eat our heavenly burgers.

This Shake Shack, in particular, is the original Shake Shack in NYC. It is also the place that Ginnifer Goodwin and John Krasinski took their lunch breaks in the movie Something Borrowed. I love finding movie spots!

What a Proud City!

This past weekend we attended (or got sucked into) the Pride Parade! This year was one of the largest in decades due to the fact that just 2 days before, New York passed the marriage equality act. What a time to be in NYC!

At first I wanted to go to the parade just to see the crazy floats and drag queens (always a good time), but then I realized that this event meant so much more. The 6 hour parade (yes, it really was that long) started at 36th st and 5th ave and ended at Christopher street in the West Village.

It brought tears to my eyes when I saw Governor Cuomo and a mass of people marching behind him with signs saying "Thank you Governor Cuomo" and on the other side "Promise Kept". At this point, it hit me that this was an historical moment for the gay community in NYC. Whether you think homosexuality is right or wrong, these people were just granted a right that they have never had before. A right to commit themselves to someone they love. I saw families, couples, reverends, police officers, firemen, and politicians that were not afraid to openly commit themselves to a significant other of the same sex. It was an eye-opening and moving experience.

I definitely got more out of my experience at the Pride Parade than I was expecting, but as promised, there were plenty of crazy floats and drag queens!

This is where we stood, the epicenter.

Our amazing friend Jarrod from Mississippi who's been living here since September

Patiently waiting....for an hour

Too cute

The governor's followers/supporters/crazed fans

3 words that will boost the economy: Gay Bridal Registry

They were giving away free lip balm!(all the gay men in front of me took it though)

Gay/lesbian marching band playing none other than Lady Ga Ga songs.

Care bear?

Amazing

Betta work!

One of the best of the day

The gay retirement community was there too! They had to stay on the bus though.

Here comes the jungle

The fun bus!

Seriously, how do you keep that on your head?!

yeah......

The only thing I actually got from the parade was a Macy's coupon...typical

She won some beauty pageant

He walked the whole way! that's talent

After 3 hours of parade watching, we found an oasis at Hummus Place! We had brunch at 4:30pm.

A happy (late) Sunday brunch in the Village.

Then we tried to get home after the parade....not that easy.

A little close

Hey look, that's my boyfriend's name!

We were very proud!

It's Business Time

Here's a small (very small) glimpse into the daily life of a fashion intern at IMG. I cannot reveal everything we get to do....it's confidential ;)

I take the subway from Penn Station everyday with Amber, I get off at 23rd street and walk about 4 avenues to get to the IMG offices at 304 Park Ave South. I pass a lot of business people wearing tennis shoes with their suits and dresses (not unlike myself), parents walking their children to school, a lot of cute coffee and breakfast places, an awkward Outback Steakhouse, Madison Square park where the original Shake Shack is located and also a few homeless people...can't get away from them. One time however, I did encounter a creepy man attempting to sell me some marijuana. No thanks.

Here are some pics of my life at work!

People-filled streets

Front entrance to the 4th floor

My desk, yes, we made name tags to decorate....

Alie! My intern partner/cubicle roommate! (we actually each had our own desk, but we decided to move in together, it's more fun that way)

Amy and Lauren, the Fashion Sponsorship and Sales interns. They sit next to us! (they work a lot. notice the amount of post-its)

This is the MBFW Swim show schedule. We live by this.

Sometimes I get to see celebs at the office. Stacy London was here my first week of work! Yeah, I had a slight panic attack....but I kept it cool and professional *yeah right*

This is where I live.
